Pica Pica Magazine

A few weeks back, I was asked to pull together some drawings for Belinda at Pica Pica magazine which I was thrilled about! Here's some info I was given about Pica Pica but make sure you visit their site and find them on twitter too to keep in the loop!

"Pica Pica is a brand new website and magazine which celebrates the new wave of craft in the UK. Run by a small group of MA Publishing students at the London College of Communication as part of our major project, we aim to establish a new magazine brand that will highlight the groups' love of all things independent and handmade with insightful articles, interviews with amazing makers, creative projects, crafty city guides and much more! Pica Pica wants to inspire everyone to get creative... and that's where you come in!

The first print issue of Pica Pica will not be widely distributed as we do not have a very big budget. Our website will hopefully establish our brand and the first issue will be available to view as a PDF online after it goes to print. We really want to carry on with our project after our course has finished, so are keen on getting big names in the field involved from the beginning! There is a big gap in the craft magazine market in the UK - all existing titles have very little to do with the flourishing alt-craft scene and concentrate more on the niche 'hobbies' sector."

So with this and Nottingham in mind I grabbed hold of my pencil and colouring in gear and got to work.... this is a mini collage of the results. (The landmarks I've drawn are in no way relative to where they are placed on the map of Nottinghamshire... it just looks kinda pretty :P)

While I'm talking about commissions, I can now share a recent Birthday Party invitation that I was asked to do by a friend at work. Sam wanted a Sunshine of her surrounded by birthday goodies, whilst holding a cuppa and wearing her slippers.... so this is what I came up with for her and it went down pretty darn well too! YAY!

Well.. my brain is fried and my tummy full of chili & sweet potato so I shall call this a night before I fall asleep and awake with my macbook keypad imprinted on my face! Night all!

Shout Out Thank You!

I received a rather nice surprise in my Folksy inbox this morning when I read a message saying that one of my new Valentine Cards had been mentioned on an admirer's blog! How exciting!

This was the culprit card... because everyone loves the cake I imagine!

The lovely message came from Tracy, writer of narkeymalarkey blog and creator of some fabulous felt goodies at Fatcat Felt, which you can find on folksy here!

So a big Thank you to Tracy for picking out my new goodies to mention! I hope you all go forth and enjoy her fantastic felting treasures too!
