Its been a rather snotty but exciting week in the world of Jo. My close friend April works for a school uniform company, Price & Buckland, as their Design & Print co-ordinator and as a hungry little bean keen to get into design I was lucky enough to spend the week there re-designing their Club Brochure.
My brief was simple: to create a double sided document no bigger than A4 to send out to their existing customers who purchase clothing for their clubs (bowls/tennis/golf etc). After a day of researching pictures and ideas my creative little mind began whirring round and I came up with 3 designs over the week. Keeping the market and the companies current marketing 'look' in mind these are the ideas I came up with...
So after talking with April, the Club Customer Service contact and her boss, Anthony a design and layout was chosen. It's always rewarding when people like your work and I thrive off feedback so the whole week was a great experience for me and my CV. I got to spend the week catching up with April while drawing and designing with tea on tap... Happy Days.
After rolling up our trouser legs and paddling around in the shop window at Get Made we finally have our own little beach! Yay!
We're all pretty proud of our achievement and are nervously awaiting feedback from the rest of the Get Made Mafiosa's now. I think it looks FAB and adds a bit of fun to the shop at the same time as showing off everyones handmade treasures.
It's been a rather hectic holiday themed week this week. The scrummy little ice creams you see below are the result of a hardcore cut & stick session I had on Tuesday night. A few of us at the Craft Mafia took on the challenge of creating a themed Window display for Get Made.
The theme is in line with the Beach they are building in Nottingham Market Square. After a couple of hours shifting sand & strategically placing seagulls, crabs, ice creams & handmade treasures from the shop, we now have our own little Crafty Beach on St James St. WOOP! Keep your eye's open if you're in town this weekend and if you're not I'm sure a few piccies of the shop's fresh new beachy look will find their way on here.
And the Beach theme kept on rolling for me throughout this week as I have just booked a weeks break to Cala Blanca in Menorca for the 1st week of August! Muchos Exciting! Now... where are my flip-flops....
For once it's not the sound of my tummy rumbling....
As much as I love the sunshine, I adore a good thunder storm! The rain has just been lashing down outside and as I was gazing into the dark night sky the most amazing fork of lightning I think I've ever seen struck down somewhere beyond my back garden.
I've seen and been caught it a fair few awesome thunder storms but I can honestly say that a few moments ago, watching that massive lightning bolt split the sky, was actually the first time I felt scared... the same kind of scared I get when the waves in the sea are just that bit bigger and more powerful than me and the surfboard that I'm clinging too... It's the fear you get when you respect something of that power and magnitude!
Anywho... The weather seems to have eased off now and I'm a bit sleepy now so will stop my ramblings and enjoy the gentle pitterpatter of rain on my window....
I am lucky enough to be part of the Nottingham Craft Mafia and one of the many bonuses... bonus... bon-i, bonusesesi... anywho... one of the many perks of being a member is that I can have my work on sale in the fabulous shop that they have at The Malt Cross in Nottingham.
This month I am honoured to be their Featured Artist, which means that I have a table in the middle of the shop all to myself to show off my goodies and advertise my brand, 'Hello Sunshine'.
So if you're in Nottingham anytime throughout July pop to St James Street, just off Market Square and have a goosey in this fab little shop. There are many other treasures handmade by lots of other talented arty beans from Nottingham. As it's attached to the Malt Cross bar you can treat yourself to some scrummy food and beverages too... what's not to love? Come on Down!
In the mean time while you're sat at your pooter visit the Nottingham Craft Mafia Blog where you can read my interview as the 'July Featured Artist' and also find out about other events & news going on with the Mafia.
